Cape Town hosts the country’s largest extreme sports lifestyle event – Ultimate X
Absa Life Xtreme presents Ultimate X 2012 festival on Saturday18 February 2011. The Gateway Canal at the V&A Waterfront will be transformed into an extreme sporting paradise with death-defying stunts and dare-devil twists performed by the kings and queens of extreme BMX, FMX, skate and wake boarding in South Africa. The event, in its third year expects over 5000 extreme sports-loving spectators to attend the day-long festival in the Mother City. 23 of the country’s best riders in each discipline will compete for a piece of the R80 000 in cash prizes and the title of ABSA Ultimate X Gold 2012 South African champion.
Who’s going to be there?
Catch international competitors in action like Nick de Wit (FMX), Greg Illingworth (BMX) and Moses Adams (Skate) plus extreme stars like Alastair Sayer and Dallan Goldman on FMX; Colin and Stuart Louden on BMX; skaters Dlamini Dlamini and Justus Kotze; and wakeboarding extremists Devon Nassif and Nick Burton-Moore.
That’s not all…
Spectators can also look forward to Top South African bands and DJ’s plus a full bar service is available all day to keep guests hydrated, hyped and entertained. And as part of ABSA’s efforts to take action sports to the masses, the sponsor will be staging an extreme experience for revellers on the day. Spectators can relax on the two 25m decks along the canal that feature day-beds, bean bags, cocktail tables and sofa’s all under a huge shaded tent. Xbox 360 games will also be made available for the public to enjoy.
When?
Gates open on 18 February at 11am and close at 7pm. The event will be followed by an extreme concert at Zula Lounge in Long Street with top local DJ’s and bands playing into the night.

Pre-bought tickets from Computicket cost R80 + R10 booking fee for adults.
Tickets are also available at the gate at R100 for adults and R40 for children under four years old.

Extreme sport is my life. After a knee injury last year I was forced to give up wakeboarding and surfing. Now I get to live vicariously through the guys lucky enough to do these crazy sports. I’d love to watch them all at Ultimate X!

I would love to take my 14 year old son, he is absolutely crazy about the Ulimate X Xtreme BMX and FMX. He have a off road bike, and dreams to be like that dare-devils one day !! He lives in Johannesburg and he will be out of his skin if he could be so lucky to win tickets

It feels extremely awkward to say why I think I should win, when I’m sure so many others are at least as ‘deserving’ and not sound arrogant or brash
In 1999, I was unfortunately the victim of a boyracer playing slotcars on a double blind S bend, resulting in permanent spinal/nerve/pain injuries and significant brain damage. Regardless of the experts’ ‘restrictions that would make someone swallow a bullet’, I have determined to live life until I die and be damned. I’ve always been a daredevil and that is NEVER going to change and I refuse to let disability ‘cripple’ me – mind or body. I have lived my life in tiny New Zealand, teach English voluntarily to non-native speakers around the world and just would LOVE to have one incredible adventure as a 48 year old ‘kid’.
Thank you for at least the opportunity to write something that has left me with a huge grin and imagination going wild
